Everything you need to know about Dubai Metro’s Blue Line Project
Dubai’s vision for futuristic transportation takes another major leap forward with the ambitious Blue Line Project. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum officially laid the foundation stone on June 9, 2025. Let’s dive into everything you need to know about this groundbreaking metro expansion.
What is the Blue Line Project?
The Blue Line Project is Dubai Metro’s latest and highly anticipated addition. Stretching 30 km, this metro line will connect key areas from Creek Station to Academic City. With 14 stations (9 elevated, 5 underground), the Blue Line will transform urban connectivity across Dubai.
Routes and Key Stations
The route starts from Creek Station, connecting to the existing Green Line. It passes through essential areas like Ras Al Khor, Al Warqa’a, Mirdif City Centre, and Dubai Silicon Oasis. A crucial feature is its two branches at Academic City, leading to Centrepoint (Red Line) and through International City 1.
The highlight? The iconic Emaar Properties Station at Dubai Creek Harbour. Standing 74 meters high, it will be the world’s tallest metro station, designed by the renowned architects of Burj Khalifa, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

Why is the Blue Line Project Important?
The Blue Line Project aims to significantly reduce traffic congestion by approximately 20% in its serviced areas. By 2040, it’s expected to cater to 320,000 passengers daily, enhancing the city’s overall mobility.
The project supports Dubai’s broader Urban Master Plan 2040, promoting sustainable urban growth. It strategically links residential districts, commercial hubs, and educational institutions, providing seamless travel for over 1 million residents and students.

Project Timeline and Costs
Initiated by Sheikh Mohammed’s approval in 2023, this AED 18 billion investment began construction after contracts were awarded in December 2024. The construction involves international partnerships with companies such as MAPA-Limak and CRRC, known for their major global infrastructure projects.

The Blue Line will feature a mix of elevated and underground tracks. It consists of 14.5 kilometres of elevated tracks and 15.5 kilometres of underground tracks. With trains travelling at 110 km/h, powered by a third-rail system, commuting will become more efficient than ever.
Conclusion
The Blue Line project is scheduled for completion by September 2029, in time for the Metro’s 20th anniversary. This expansion of Dubai Metro promises easier commutes and enhances the city’s international appeal as a leader in urban innovation.
