Rain Turns Risky as Drivers Show Off

As heavy rains hit Sharjah, some motorists saw it as a chance for thrill-seeking rather than caution. Eight drivers were caught performing dangerous stunts on public roads during the downpour. Their actions put themselves, other drivers, and pedestrians at serious risk.

Sharjah Police swiftly tracked down the vehicles involved. According to officials, these stunts occurred in residential and urban zones, where visibility and grip were already low due to rain. The result was a public safety hazard, caught on video and widely shared online.

Impound Penalties for Dangerous Driving

Brigadier Khalid Mohammed Al Kay, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, confirmed that immediate legal action was taken. He stressed that such reckless behaviour turns what should be enjoyable weather into a danger.

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate cited drivers for multiple violations under the UAE’s Federal Traffic Law. As a result, all 8 cars were impounded, and severe penalties were imposed.

Violations and Penalties: What the Drivers Face

Sharjah Police listed the following charges and corresponding consequences:

Driving that endangers life and public safety

  • Fine: AED 2,000
  • Black Points: 23
  • Vehicle Impound: Up to 60 days

Driving without license plates

  • Fine: AED 3,000
  • Black Points: 23
  • Vehicle Impound: Up to 90 days

Sharjah Police reminded motorists that these laws are not optional, especially in poor weather conditions. Impounding cars is not just punishment. It is a necessary move to prevent further risk.

Public Role in Reporting Reckless Driving

Sharjah Police emphasized that community involvement is essential to prevent such incidents. Residents are encouraged to report dangerous driving by calling:

  • 999 for emergencies
  • 901 for non-emergency traffic violations

Authorities say these reports help save lives and reinforce a safer driving culture across the emirate.

Conclusion

This decisive impound action by Sharjah Police sends a clear message. Road safety is non-negotiable, no matter the weather or thrill. Officers acted quickly to remove high-risk drivers from the roads and protect the public.
