Toyota Makes History with the First Battery-Electric Hilux Pickup
Toyota has unveiled the ninth-generation Hilux, marking a new chapter for the iconic pickup. The new model offers a range of powertrain options, including the first-ever Electric Hilux. This aligns with Toyota’s multipath philosophy, providing choices to suit various customer needs.

Electric Hilux Joins the Lineup
The 59.2 kWh lithium-ion battery powers the Electric Hilux and provides a WLTP range of about 240 km. It retains the Hilux’s off-road capabilities, with permanent AWD and a Multi-Terrain Select system for various driving conditions.
Toyota says the Electric Hilux has the same wading depth as its diesel and petrol models, ensuring the truck’s ruggedness.
Hybrid and Traditional Powertrains
In addition to the Electric Hilux, Toyota will offer a Hybrid 48V version for Western Europe. This combines a 48V lithium-ion battery with a 2.8-litre engine for smooth, efficient performance. For Eastern Europe, the Hilux will continue to offer diesel and petrol engine options.
New Design and Features
The new Hilux introduces a new exterior design, featuring a streamlined front end and aero elements to improve efficiency. Inside, the cabin features a 12.3-inch customizable display and new multimedia options.
Toyota’s T-Mate safety system includes updated driver assistance features, such as Proactive Driving Assist. In 2028, Toyota plans to introduce a hydrogen fuel cell Toyota Hilux, further advancing its hydrogen strategy.
This will complement the Hilux as part of Toyota’s commitment to sustainable energy.
