RTA Delivers: 50% More Space, Zero Traffic Stress
Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority RTA has completed a major upgrade at a key link between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. The most significant change is the expansion of Exit D69, which now has two lanes instead of one. This improvement has increased road capacity from 1,500 to 3,000 vehicles per hour.
Drivers are already reporting smoother flow, with waiting times reduced by up to 50%. The bridge on First Al Khail Road also saw a massive upgrade. It now has four lanes in each direction, up from three. This has pushed the bridge’s capacity from 4,500 to 6,000 vehicles per hour.
Travel time during peak hours has dropped from seven minutes to just four.

Smoother Connections and Faster Commutes
Alongside the main expansion, several ramps were also widened. Previously, many key ramps had only one lane of traffic. These have now been expanded to two, significantly reducing waiting times during morning and evening rush hours.
Traffic flowing between Al Khail and Sheikh Zayed Roads is now much better managed. The improved ramps and expanded bridge allow drivers to switch roads more efficiently. This means fewer bottlenecks and faster trips across one of Dubai’s busiest intersections.
A Big Step in Dubai’s Mobility Vision
The RTA is rolling out more than 75 projects across the city this year. These include new bridges, wider roads, and smarter traffic systems. All of it is part of a broader vision to make Dubai more connected and easier to navigate.
RTA’s goal is not only to ease traffic but also to support Dubai’s rapidly growing population and urban development. With each improvement, the city is getting closer to its vision of seamless, safe, and efficient mobility.
Conclusion
The expansion of Exit D69 and the surrounding road network is already showing results. With a 50% increase in capacity and major reductions in travel time, this project marks another smart move by RTA in Dubai’s journey toward better urban infrastructure.
