Reviewing the 2025 Lexus LC500 Convertible: The Last of its Kind

Picture this: You are in the market to buy a convertible Grand Tourer. You’re choosing between the Carrera 4 GTS or a Vantage, or if you’re a hedge fund manager, a Continental GT Speed. What if we convinced you that the 2025 Lexus LC500 Convertible is better than all of these?

How so? Valid ask. For starters, all these cars aren’t very budget-friendly. One wouldn’t consider buying these a wise financial decision. And even after you get one, it’s an unspoken rule that these cars are high maintenance. Scrapped that front splitter? There goes another AED 3,500. None of these cars has the reliability and dependability of a Japanese vehicle.

All of the above-mentioned cars are common nowadays. But the Lexus LC500 Convertible is a unicorn. You expect Bentley to build exquisite coaches, not trophy trucks. Similarly, people expect Lexus to produce reliable, boring, luxurious, yet affordable cars.

With the LC500, Lexus simply killed the boring part.

Lexus LC500 Convertible Price in UAE

The starting price of the Lexus LC500 Convertible in the UAE is AED 502,000. Lexus currently offers only a single variant of the LC500 in the UAE.

Striking Silhouette

Let’s start from the front! The grille is pretty much in your face. Some people like it, some don’t. The DRL LEDs look like an illuminated Nike logo. The headlights look amazing. Moving on to the side profile, the car looks like a proper Grand Tourer Convertible with a low-slung silhouette.

The 21” Aluminum Forged Alloy Wheels look spectacular. When you unlock the car, the door handle, which is integrated in the body, pops out for you to pull and open the door. Beside both doors are the functional air inlets that serve an unknown purpose.

This is a convertible one, but if you go for the hardtop one, the roof is made entirely of carbon fibre. Just like the headlights, the taillights feature a 3D LED design, which is simply amazing. There is a massive rear diffuser present with dual exhaust exits. It doesn’t have a giant wing like the Porsche 911 GT3. What it does have is a functional deployable spoiler which can be controlled from the centre console.

In conclusion, the Lexus LC500 is nothing short of an art piece on wheels. We don’t need to describe its overall appeal to you; you’ll know it when you see it.

Inside that Long Bonnet

One of the primary reasons to consider buying this car is its powertrain. The 5.0-liter Naturally Aspirated DOHC V8 that revs up to 7300 RPM is the horn of this unicorn. This is one of the last modern sports cars to feature a massive NA high-revving V8. That feeling of hitting the rev limiter, switching through gears inside a tunnel with the top down…

We dare you to put together a list of new or upcoming cars that allow you to do this at a similar price point. Lexus failed with the LFA, but they learned from it, and they put all that wisdom inside the LC500. The V8 makes 471 hp and 540 Nm of torque. The power is sent to the rear wheels only via a 10-Speed Sport Direct Shift transmission.

0-100 km/h is achieved in 4.5 seconds. Keep your foot on the accelerator for a little longer, and the Lexus LC500 will eventually reach a top speed of 270 km/h. Upon startup, the car revs to 2500 RPM just to give you a teaser of what you’re about to enjoy.

If you’re worried it will spin out like a Mustang, don’t. The Lexus LC500 comes with a Limited-Slip Differential from the factory and rear-wheel steering as well.

To put it mildly, the 2025 Lexus LC500 Convertible is the best interpretation of a 5L NA V8 money can buy today.

Well-built Cockpit

Step inside the Lexus LC500 convertible, and the first thing you’ll notice is the plush Semi Aniline Premium Leather seats. You’re seats offer heating, ventilation, and memory functions. You even get a heated steering wheel.

There is an Auto-dimming frameless rearview so you can enjoy gapping a $300,000 V6 sports car. Unlike the previous generation, multimedia is now much better with a 12.3” touchscreen. The climate controls are physical brushed aluminum buttons. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.

If you want to listen to Taylor Swift on the go, the LC500 comes with a 13-speaker Mark Levinson Surround Sound System. The only thing we miss in the Lexus LC500 convertible’s opulent interior is the wireless charging pad. You’ll notice there are two dials on both sides of the speedo. One of them is the drive mode selector, and the other adjusts the traction and stability settings.

Talking about the speedometer, there’s a button on the steering wheel which, when pressed, moves the rpm dial in the speedometer to the right and back. This sort of creativity is expected from a German touring car, but that’s what makes this LC500 so special.

Although you have four seats, there is 32.5” of legroom in the back. This means, unless you’re under 6 feet, you probably can’t sit in the rear seats. The trunk is also quite small, measuring 149 liters. Still, this is far more than what its competitors offer.

Also, there are air vents in your headrests. If you’re driving under 60 km/h, there is a hidden button in the center console to deploy the roof. It’s only adequate to say that the Lexus LC500 isn’t an Aston Martin on a budget. An Aston Martin is an overpriced Lexus LC500 convertible.

Lexus LC500 Convertible Competitors

1. BMW 8 Series Convertible

Will probably lose its value more over the years. Also, compared to the Lexus, the BMW 8 Series Convertible is a very common car.

2. Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet

Good for weekend track sessions, but for everyday comfortable cruising, Lexus is the answer.

3. Jaguar F-Type Convertible

Although more expensive, the build quality and comfort are nowhere near those of the Lexus LC500.

Conclusion

It’s safe to say that Lexus went out of its way to build this masterpiece of a car. Since this car has over 6 production years and now sales are slouching, it’s not long before this car disappears from the market. This will eventually result in the Lexus LC500 convertible going up in value.

This isn’t a full-on sports car like the new Supra; it’s a refined blend of performance, luxury, comfort, and reliability. We tried to find genuine flaws in the design, comfort, and performance, but failed. Our unhinged and unfiltered opinion is that this is currently one of the best new cars you can buy and enjoy.
