JLR has revealed the production-spec Range Rover Electric, bringing a fully electric powertrain to its flagship SUV. US order books are now open, with the Range Rover Electric starting at $138,000 before destination and handling charges.

Built in Solihull, UK, it is the first fully electric Range Rover in the nameplate’s 56-year history. Its dual-motor powertrain produces up to 542 hp and 850 Nm of torque.

Spec Range Rover Electric
Starting Price $138,000 (US Market)
Powertrain Dual Permanent-Magnet Motors
Combined Output 542 hp / 850 Nm of Torque
Battery Capacity 118.5 kWh (Usable)
EPA-estimated range Up to 333 Miles
0–100 km/h 4.5 Seconds
DC Fast Charging 10%-80% in ~22 Min
Max Wading Depth 900 mm (35.4 inches)

High-Voltage Performance and Fast Charging

Its power comes from a double-stacked 118.5-kWh lithium-ion battery containing 344 prismatic cells. The system runs on an 800-volt electrical architecture designed for high-power DC fast charging. The battery can charge from 10% to 80% in about 22 minutes on a 350-kW DC charger when operating at its maximum charging rate.

A 10-minute charge at the maximum rate can add up to 200 km of EPA-estimated range. The dual-motor powertrain drives all 4 wheels, taking the SUV from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. Acceleration from 80 to 121 km/h takes as little as 2.7 seconds.

Range Rover describes the system as delivering V8-level power, while the electric drivetrain produces no tailpipe emissions. North American buyers also gain native access to Tesla Supercharger networks.

Instant Torque and All-Terrain Off-Road Capability

Range Rover has introduced new electronic traction controls intended to preserve the model’s off-road capability. The new Integrated Traction Management system can control motor speed within 50 milliseconds.

According to JLR, the system manages slip up to 100 times quicker than an equivalent combustion-engine vehicle. The Intelligent Driveline Dynamics system can vary the available rear torque from 0 to 100% to maintain traction.

Single Pedal mode lets the vehicle pull away on slopes up to 33 degrees using accelerator-pedal control. The system can also complete a rolling climb on slopes of up to 45 degrees. The Range Rover Electric retains a maximum wading depth of about 900 mm (35 inches).

JLR Vehicle Engineering Director Matt Becker said the vehicle remained composed across low-grip terrain and high-speed roads during development.

Production Heritage and Trim Levels

The Range Rover Electric is being made at Solihull alongside combustion, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid Range Rover models. 9,000 employees at Solihull have been upskilled for electrification, and another 1,500 have been trained across the wider West Midlands.

Drive units and battery packs originate from JLR’s Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Center in Wolverhampton. The Wolverhampton site is the UK’s largest facility combining ICE and electric-powertrain production.

Buyers can choose between SWB and LWB body styles across multiple luxury trim levels. Trim options include SE, Autobiography, SV, SV Black, and a top-tier SV Ultra. A First Edition is offered in Belgravia Green, Santorini Black or Varesine Blue, with Light Cloud Ultrafabrics and Kvadrat interior trim. In the US, the Range Rover Electric carries an 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty.

Conclusion

On paper, the electric model retains many of the Range Rover’s established performance and off-road specifications while eliminating tailpipe emissions. At $138,000 before destination charges, the Electric targets the upper end of the luxury SUV market.

Real-world range, charging performance, and ownership experience will be clearer once customers put the vehicles to regular use. Its strongest differentiators appear to be Range Rover’s established luxury positioning and the EV’s retained off-road capability.

The Range Rover Electric shows how JLR has adapted the existing flagship SUV formula to a battery-electric powertrain. Order books are now open in the US; JLR has not specified a first US customer-delivery date in its launch release.
