Dubai has announced a significant update to public parking near mosques. The new Dubai Mosque Parking plan aims to prioritise worshippers while managing limited space in busy areas. This scheme includes over 2,100 parking spots at 59 mosques.
The system introduces clearly marked paid zones while allowing worshippers a free one-hour parking window during prayer times.
Why Dubai Introduced the New Mosque Parking System
In many areas, long-term parkers occupy mosque parking spaces without attending prayers. This often leaves worshippers struggling to find spots, especially during busy prayer hours. Authorities introduced the Dubai Mosque Parking project to address this issue.
It ensures fair parking access while maintaining order in high-demand areas. The initiative is a collaboration between Parkin and the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department.
Understanding Zone M and Zone MP
Two parking categories have been created under the new plan: Zone M and Zone MP.
Zone M (Standard):
- AED 2 for 30 minutes
- AED 4 for one hour
Zone MP (Premium):
- Off-peak: AED 2 for 30 minutes, AED 4 for one hour
- Peak hours: AED 3 for 30 minutes, AED 6 for one hour
Zone MP covers high-demand or centrally located mosques. These rates are active 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The goal is to prevent non-worshippers from occupying these limited spaces for extended periods of time.
Worshippers Still Get Free Access During Prayer Times
Despite the paid parking model, worshippers will still receive one hour of free parking during every prayer time. This applies across all locations under the Dubai Mosque Parking plan. Access is freely available regardless of the mosque’s location.
This ensures that worshippers are not penalised while attending daily prayers. Signboards at each location clearly mention the rates and grace period in both Arabic and English.
How to Pay and When This Starts
Drivers can use the Parkin app, RTA Dubai app, or SMS to make payments. The system supports all existing digital channels, keeping it simple for residents. Parkin will begin implementing the Dubai Mosque Parking zones in August 2025.
Parkin officials have confirmed that all enforcement will be carried out digitally. The scheme may expand in the future based on public feedback and zone performance.
Conclusion
The new Dubai Mosque Parking policy reflects a balanced approach to modern mobility. Worshippers retain priority with free access during prayer, while general use is better regulated.
