Mitsubishi Motors has unveiled the all-new Pajero Cross-Country SUV at a world premiere held in Tokyo. The reveal brings the Pajero back to the global market 5 years after it was discontinued overseas. The new Pajero is positioned as a flagship product within the company’s new brand-led growth strategy.

The Pajero will launch first in Thailand, followed by Japan and Australia during Mitsubishi’s fiscal 2026. It will also lead a broader family of models planned around the nameplate.

Blending Heritage Design With Modern Cabin Tech

The exterior uses strong horizontal lines and several design cues inspired by earlier Pajero generations. Inside, the dashboard integrates two 14.3” displays on applicable specifications, including a digital Multi Meter inspired by the Pajero’s traditional triple-gauge layout.

Acoustic glass and additional insulation reduce wind and engine noise inside the cabin. Soft-touch trim on the instrument panel and door panels uses stitching inspired by the traditional Japanese Kimekomi craft.

New Pajero Cross-Country Gets Serious Off-Road Hardware

The all-new Pajero Cross-Country uses a highly rigid ladder frame with more high-tensile steel. It also uses a 2.4L clean diesel engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Drivers can choose from 7 drive modes: Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand and Rock.

The Pajero Cross-Country uses independent double-wishbone front suspension and a 5-link rigid rear axle. Its safety features include Forward Collision Mitigation, Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Emergency Lane Assist and eight airbags.

The 3D Multi Around Monitor offers an under-floor camera view to spot trail hazards. The 3rd row is designed to accommodate adult passengers, while the 2nd-row seats offer 150 mm of sliding adjustment and a tumble mechanism.

Conclusion

The ladder-frame chassis, low-range gearing and rigid rear axle give the 2026 Pajero hardware suited to serious off-road driving. With up to 480 Nm, it returns to a segment that already includes several established diesel off-road SUVs.

The Pajero is planned for approximately 100 countries as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the brand and improve profitability. It combines traditional off-road hardware with a substantially more modern cabin, although market-specific pricing and equipment are still to be announced.
