New Traffic Improvement Projects Cut Travel Time in Business Bay
Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed a set of traffic projects in Business Bay aimed at easing the traffic congestion and improving the traffic flow for smoother commutes in the busiest area.
Earlier, many residents shared that it took them more than 30 minutes to cross Business Bay during the peak rush hours. To resolve this matter, the RTA undertook three projects that expanded and upgraded several key locations along the street. This improves the traffic flow and road safety for road users in the area.
Major Upgrades by RTA
The following are the major upgrades done by RTA.
1. Street Converted to One-Way
A busy street near Sheikh Zayed Road, which was previously a two-way road, is now a one-way dual carriageway. This means more space for vehicles to move in one direction. The result? Double the traffic capacity.
2. New Turn Lane Added
A 100-meter-long right-turn lane was built at the intersection of Al Mustaqbal Street and Al Khaleej Al Tejari 1 Street. This helps more cars turn smoothly, reducing waiting times by nearly 50%. significantly reducing delays for vehicles heading toward First Al Khail Street.
3. Wider Service Roads and Canal Bridge
RTA expanded the service road next to Al Mustaqbal Street. They also widened the bridge entry near the canal heading toward First Al Khail Street. The number of lanes there increased from one to two. That means fewer bottlenecks and more free flow of traffic.
Improving Commutes for All
These developments are expected to benefit a wide range of road users, including residents, office workers, delivery drivers, and public transport operators. Business Bay is a popular area frequented by tourists due to its proximity to Downtown Dubai, which makes it very busy during peak hours. With enhancements to intersections and increased road widths, drivers can expect shorter wait times and more predictable journey durations both in and out of Business Bay.
A Step Toward Smarter Mobility
RTA’s efforts in Business Bay align with its long-term goals of building a more efficient, safer, and smarter transport network across Dubai. These traffic improvements represent a proactive response to the increasing demand for road space in high-density areas.
The RTA continues to monitor traffic conditions and plans further upgrades in various neighbourhoods to ensure sustainable urban mobility.
