New Al Qudra Road Bridge: Your Dubai Commute Just Got 55% Faster

Al Qudra Road

Dubai motorists are celebrating a major infrastructure win today, as travel times on a major corridor have dropped by more than half. The RTA officially opened a 600-metre bridge at the intersection of Al Qudra Road and the link road between Arabian Ranches and Dubai Studio City.

This strategic project marks a significant milestone in Dubai’s plan to enhance East-West traffic corridors.

Faster Commutes Along Al Qudra Road

The newly completed four-lane bridge is designed to eliminate a notorious bottleneck for suburban residents. By elevating traffic above the previous intersection, the RTA has increased junction capacity from 6,600 to 19,200 vehicles per hour.

This represents a 191% surge in efficiency, ensuring that thousands of commuters can move through the area comfortably.

As reported by the RTA, the project extends from the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road intersection to Emirates Road. The wider development involves 11.6 kilometres of road improvements and the construction of 2,700-metre bridges.

These upgrades are essential as the area continues to witness rapid population growth and urban expansion.

Performance Breakdown: Before vs. After

Metric Previous Figures New Figures Improvement
Vehicle Capacity 6,600 per hour 19,200 per hour +191%
Intersection Delay 113 seconds 52 seconds -55%
Total Journey Time ~9.4 minutes ~2.8 minutes -70%

The Al Qudra Road project is set to serve approximately 400,000 residents and visitors across several high-density residential hubs. Key areas seeing immediate benefits include:

More Improvements Are on the Way

Motorists should note that even more relief is coming very soon. The RTA will open the northern bridge at the intersection of Al Qudra Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street on February 15. This 700-metre structure will provide two lanes in each direction to serve traffic heading toward Al Qudra City.

These phased openings ensure traffic flow improves incrementally as the project wraps up. Furthermore, the RTA is constructing a 900-metre bridge to facilitate smoother transitions toward Dubai International Airport.

Service roads spanning 3 kilometres are also being developed to enhance connectivity with surrounding projects. This holistic approach to infrastructure confirms Dubai’s commitment to maintaining its status as a world-class city for mobility.

Wrapping Up

The opening of the latest bridge on Al Qudra Road proves that Dubai is moving faster than ever toward a seamless future. With waiting times slashed by 55% and capacity nearly tripled, the daily drive for thousands has been transformed.

Stay tuned as more sections of this vital corridor open throughout February, providing even greater relief to the city’s road network. How does this new bridge change your daily commute to work? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
