Motorcyclist Caught Doing 290km/h in Dubai Faces AED 50,000 Fine

A motorcyclist filmed riding at more than 290km/h in Dubai has had his motorcycle impounded and faces an AED 50,000 release fee, along with further legal action. Dubai Police summoned the rider after online video footage revealed severe road safety violations across highways. 

Under Dubai Decree No. 30 of 2023, vehicles impounded for reckless driving that endangers lives, property, or road safety are subject to an AED 50,000 release payment. Authorities confirmed the impounded vehicle requires a steep payment before the owner can request its return.

High-Speed Stunts Trigger Dubai Police Action

Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan confirmed the offender was referred directly to relevant legal authorities. The high-speed motorcyclist was identified by specialist traffic patrols shortly after the video surfaced. 

Footage showed the rider traveling at extreme speed, riding on one wheel and moving recklessly through traffic. Under Dubai Decree No. 30 of 2023, the vehicle can only be released after paying AED 50,000.

Severe Safety Risks of High-Speed Stunts

Bin Suwaidan warned that riding a motorcycle at speeds above 290km/h leaves no room for error. Performing wheelies also makes a motorcycle harder to control by reducing its stability, steering and braking ability. 

Operating a high-powered bike demands responsibility, yet the motorcyclist chose to perform dangerous one-wheeled stunts.“This can leave both road users with almost no time to react and avoid a collision,” police said. 

Bin Suwaidan said excessive speed also affects a rider’s ability to judge distances and make decisions. Reckless riding can put other drivers at risk too, particularly if drivers are forced to swerve. Dubai Police said smart traffic monitoring systems and patrols are being used to detect dangerous driving.
