The Hyptec HT is one of the latest electric cars launched in the UAE region by Chinese Automaker GAC Aion. It is an affordable yet premium and technologically packed mid-size family SUV. But what makes it a better option compared to all of its competitors? Let’s find out as we review the performance, aesthetics, cabin comfort, safety, and driver assistance technology.
GAC Aion
GAC Aion is the EV arm of China’s Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC). They’re laser-focused on making affordable yet competitive EVs, blending solid tech with sleek designs for domestic and expanding international markets.
Unlike flashy startups, GAC Aion leverages serious manufacturing muscle and solid R&D to produce well-engineered electric cars. Their strategy isn’t about reinventing the wheel but delivering practical, reliable EVs with decent range and smart features—think Tesla-lite but more accessible.
They’re serious players in China’s EV boom, rapidly growing and eyeing a global presence without overhyping.
A Cheaper Tesla Model X?
Design-wise, the Hyptec HT is a cheaper version of the Tesla Model X. It’s an electric mid-size SUV with Gulwing doors. How else would you define a Tesla Model X? Our initial thoughts about the HT’s exterior are that it’s somewhat better looking than the Tesla.
The Tesla Model X may be a highly efficient grocery-getter, but it’s still a fridge; the car’s exterior does not reflect any emotions. The HT, on the other hand, looks quite like an Aston Martin DBX 707. The diamond-cut LED headlights and Horizon-Inspired LED rear light bar add a striking appeal to the car’s exterior.
The headlights are automatic and have built-in DRLs. The car rides on 19-inch striking aero wheels, which look decent for a family SUV. You get a heated rear-windscreen, heat-insulated panoramic sunroof, electric sunshade, and double-layer soundproof glass on all windows.
This means you get the complete package even if you go for the base variant. Talking about variants, here are the variants and pricing of the Hyptec HT:
- HT Elite priced at AED 177,900
- HT Ultra priced at AED 189,900
The base variant also has frameless doors, the type you see on Aston Martins and Mercedes-Benzes; however, only the HT Ultra variant offers rear Gullwing doors.
Performance
Both the Elite and Ultra variants have the same performance figures. There is an obvious difference in the gross weight because of the added gullwing doors, but GAC Aion hasn’t specifically addressed it.
| Specs | HT Elite | HT Ultra |
| Battery capacity | 72.7 kWh | |
| Range (WLTC) | 445 km | |
| No. of Electric Motors | Single electric motor | |
| Drivetrain | RWD | |
| Power | 240 hp | |
| Torque | 309 Nm | |
| 0-100 km/h | 5.8 seconds | |
| Weight | 2,280 kg | |
The 72.7 kWh battery offers a full-charge range of up to 445 km. Fast charging can recover 60 % of the battery in only 15 minutes. The power is drawn from a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery. Driving this car is unexpectedly enjoyable. Even in Comfort mode, the steering is solid, providing good weight, quick responsiveness, and precision.
The Ultra trim features fixed callipers on disc brakes, and the brake pedal offers a smooth, predictable feel when decelerating. This is something that many other EVs struggle to achieve. The car is easy to navigate on the road.
However, due to the sloping coupe-style roof, the narrow view from the rearview mirror can be somewhat frustrating. Otherwise, handling the vehicle feels instinctive and assured.
Cabin Comfort
The interior is where the Hyptec HT justifies its rather affordable price tag. Imagine Nappa leather, 12-way electrically adjustable, heated, ventilated, and massage seats with lumbar support. No, we are not talking about a Maybach here.
A 22-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system, Intelligent Ambient Lighting, panoramic moonroof and a 50W charger ensure utter comfort for all 5 passengers. The rear seats can recline, and trays are on the back of the front seats. We are still not talking about a Maybach here.
The Air Butler Plus Package is standard across all variants. Central to the package is its advanced air purification system. Equipped with a PM2.5 sensor, it continuously monitors and filters delicate particulate matter, ensuring the cabin air remains clean and fresh.
The system also includes CO₂ monitoring, adjusting ventilation to maintain optimal oxygen levels, and preventing drowsiness during drives. The intelligent anti-fog and automatic defogging system enhances visibility and safety by preventing windshield fogging in varying weather conditions.
The Air Butler Plus package incorporates a fragrance system to elevate the in-cabin experience further. This feature lets passengers enjoy a pleasant aroma, transforming the cabin into a serene, spa-like environment.
Feature Packed
You’ll be amazed at what the Hyptec HT offers at its price range. It packs serious tech to match its luxury vibe. Inside, you get a dual-screen setup; a large, crisp 15.6-inch infotainment display paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
Dual-zone automatic air conditioning ensures drivers and passengers can customise their climate without hassle. Safety isn’t an afterthought, either. The cabin has multiple airbags for comprehensive protection. Advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and a 360-degree camera system.
These features enhance safety and reduce driving stress, giving the Hyptec HT an edge in the EV luxury segment.
Hyptec HT Competitors
-
Tesla Model X
Tesla is the obvious benchmark, with cutting-edge tech, superior charging infrastructure, and performance. Hyptec HT is more luxurious, but Tesla is a major and established player in the game.
-
NIO ES7
Another Chinese EV with strong tech, swappable batteries, and a focus on luxury and driver assistance. It’s a direct rival in price and segment.
-
XPeng G9
With smart features and decent range, XPeng targets the same buyers looking for advanced tech without Tesla’s premium pricing.
Conclusion
The Hyptec HT impresses as a stylish, tech-packed luxury electric SUV that punches above its weight. Its comfortable, well-appointed interior and advanced safety features offer substantial value in a crowded market.
While it may not outgun Tesla or NIO in every category, its unique design and thoughtful comfort touches make it a compelling alternative for buyers seeking something fresh and sophisticated without the usual price premium.
