A report has surfaced claiming that Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, is backing Slate Auto, a secretive EV company start-up. A picture of an unknown truck has been all over social media as the automaker is leaving the prototype of their EV model around the streets for all to see, a clever marketing strategy.  Rumour has it that Jeff Bezos has funded $25,000 for this EV model. It isn’t the first time Jeff Bezos has invested in an EV start-up.

Slate Auto leaving Prototypes on Roads

Recently, a car journalist at The Autopian spotted a prototype stranded on the street. It had a “CryShare” logo, a binkie, and car seats on the roof, as well as a slogan reading, “When baby drives you crazy, we drive them to sleep.”

First Look at Slate Auto’s Grey EV

On April 9, a user, discostranger09 on r/whatisthiscar, shared a picture of a grey vehicle. This bizarre vehicle did not have much information but looked like a compact pickup truck. Ever since the picture was out, the media confirmed it was a prototype of Slate Auto in Long Beach, California. This confirms Slate Auto’s plan to launch a two-seater truck in 2026.

Slate Auto is determined to launch an electric pickup truck for about $25,000, so you might expect nothing. It also proves Jeff Bezos fame for being ungenerous. Although the price won’t be convincing. The truck is generously designed so that owners can personalize it over time as they can afford it.

As there isn’t much information about the vehicle yet, we can’t confirm or say anything. A couple of weeks ago, Slate collaborated with its pickup truck with Newsweek, saying, “Slate aims to beat Tesla to the punch with an inexpensive compact electric vehicle for the everyman.”

The Company has already raised $111 million in Series A Funding, to which Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, contributed a portion of the fund.

We’ll know more about the updates on Slate Auto on the debut of their first electric truck.
