Goodbye Blue Roofs: Dubai’s Taxis Get a Purple Makeover

Blue Roof Taxi

Dubai’s public transport system is undergoing a subtle yet notable change. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has begun phasing out blue-roof taxis operated by Cars Taxi. These vehicles are being replaced by taxis featuring a new purple roof, representing the latest operator under the RTA’s regulated fleet: Kabi.

This transition is part of a broader rebranding and operational update aimed at enhancing service quality and ensuring a consistent experience across all RTA-approved taxis in the Emirate.

What Do Roof Colours Mean?

In Dubai, the colour of a taxi’s roof is used to indicate its operating company. The RTA oversees several private taxi operators, each designated by a specific roof colour to distinguish their vehicles. For years, the blue roof taxis signified Cars Taxi, one of the earlier licensed providers in the city.

With the introduction of Kabi, the RTA is updating its visual classification system by assigning the new operator a purple roof. This change reflects an evolution in the fleet’s structure, focused on improving service consistency and operational efficiency.

Maintaining Service Standards

While the visual branding has changed, the standard of service remains consistent. All RTA-regulated taxis, regardless of operator, follow uniform fare structures, driver training requirements, and vehicle specifications. The newly introduced purple-roof Kabi taxis meet the same performance and safety standards set by the RTA.

Passengers can expect modern vehicles equipped with digital meters, GPS systems, and multiple payment options, including cash, card, and Nol card integration.

A Step Toward Better Transport

Dubai’s RTA continues to innovate and refine public transport across the city. From introducing electric and hybrid taxis to integrating smart technologies and real-time ride tracking, the authority aims to offer world-class urban mobility. The colour-coded taxi roof system remains a practical way for residents and visitors to identify operators and receive consistent service.

With Kabi’s arrival and the purple makeover underway, Dubai’s taxi network enters a new phase—modern, organised, and visually refreshed.
