Geely UAE Recalls 5,500 Cars: Faulty Fuel Cap May Damage Fuel System

Geely UAE

Geely UAE recalls 5,584 Emgrand sedans due to a fuel filler cap defect that could cause fuel system leakage. The recall affects vehicles manufactured between August 3, 2023, and July 4, 2024. According to Geely’s engineering team, the issue stems from a non-vented fuel cap, which may trap vacuum pressure inside the tank.

Over time, this vacuum can cause the fuel tank to deform, especially after long driving sessions, creating contact points that could result in fuel leakage.

Why the Recall Was Issued

AGMC, the official distributor for Geely in the UAE, acted on technical findings from Geely’s headquarters in China. Engineers determined that fuel filler caps without proper ventilation could compromise the fuel system in the following ways:

Though no accidents or injuries have been reported, the company is taking preventive action to avoid future incidents.
