Fast, Comfortable, Connected: Etihad Rail is Coming in 2026

0 130

Etihad Rail is gearing up to launch its long-awaited passenger service by 2026, and it’s about to redefine travel across the UAE. With a fully integrated network stretching approximately 1,200 kilometres, the railway will connect 11 major cities across all seven emirates — from Fujairah to Abu Dhabi — and promises a fast, modern, and eco-friendly alternative to road travel.

The trains will operate at speeds of up to 200 km/h, allowing passengers to travel from Abu Dhabi to Dubai in just 57 minutes. Trips between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah will take around 105 minutes. These journeys, once long and exhausting by car, will become smoother, faster, and far more reliable.

Designed for Comfort and Convenience

Etihad Rail isn’t just about speed — it’s also about comfort. Each train will be capable of carrying up to 400 passengers, with seating divided into business and economy classes. Business class cabins will offer recliner-style seats with extra legroom, while economy will provide spacious, ergonomically designed seats for everyday travellers.

Amenities include high-speed Wi-Fi, charging ports, entertainment screens, and on-board restrooms, including facilities for passengers with reduced mobility. The system will also support nol card integration, making it easy for commuters to connect between different public transport modes across the UAE.

Strategic Station Locations for Full Connectivity

Etihad Rail’s network is designed with accessibility in mind. Stations are strategically located in key urban and industrial zones. Major confirmed stations include:

  • Fujairah (Sakamkam)

  • Sharjah (University City)

  • Dubai (near Jumeirah Golf Estates)

  • Abu Dhabi (Pipeline corridor near Mussafah)

  • Ras Al Khaimah

  • Al Ain

  • Al Ruwais

  • Al Mirfa

  • Al Dhaid

Each station is being developed with passenger comfort in mind, offering shaded platforms, automated ticketing, and seamless access to local transport systems.

A Link to Oman

One of the most ambitious components of Etihad Rail is its international extension. The Hafeet Rail project — a 303-kilometre line — will connect Sohar in Oman to Abu Dhabi. Passenger trains on this route will run at up to 200 km/h, reducing the journey to just 100 minutes. Meanwhile, freight trains will operate at 120 km/h, bolstering cross-border trade between the UAE and Oman.

This strategic rail link comes with a hefty investment of USD 3 billion and is expected to significantly enhance economic integration between the two countries. The project reflects the UAE’s commitment to regional connectivity and sustainable transportation.

Powered by Global Partnerships

Etihad Rail’s success is being powered by some of the world’s leading transport and technology companies. Spanish firm CAF is supplying the passenger trains, ensuring state-of-the-art design and safety. Hitachi Rail brings advanced rail systems technology to the table, while Deutsche Bahn, Germany’s national rail operator, is partnering on operations and maintenance. These collaborations are helping Etihad Rail meet global standards in safety, efficiency, and passenger experience.

Looking Ahead

Etihad Rail is more than just a railway — it’s a national infrastructure project built for the future. It supports the UAE’s goals of sustainability, reduced road traffic, and smart urban development. Once operational, the network is expected to shift both passengers and freight away from congested roads, improving safety and reducing emissions.
