Dubai Parking Lots Could Soon Connect to Driverless Pods

Dubai-based parking operator Parkin Company PJSC has signed a strategic agreement with Glydways to explore multimodal mobility hubs. According to an official statement, the collaboration aims to transform parking sites into access points for autonomous transit. These driverless pods are designed to bridge the gap between parking areas and major city destinations.

Parkin said the agreement will examine how parking assets can support autonomous first-mile and last-mile mobility. This initiative supports Dubai’s broader goal of making 25% of all urban trips autonomous by 2030.

Glydways Technical Specs and System Capacity

The Glydways system utilizes autonomous EVs that operate on dedicated narrow guideways to avoid existing road congestion. Each driverless pod is designed to carry up to 6 passengers while reaching operational speeds of approximately 50 km/h. 

The technology enables virtual platooning with a 1-second headway, ensuring high-frequency passenger movement during peak hours. This infrastructure can move up to 10,000 passengers per hour while reducing pressure on existing roads.

The RTA has previously studied autonomous pilot routes linking National Paints to Bluewaters Island and Dubai Festival City. Under this new agreement, Parkin Mobility will investigate how multi-story parking infrastructure can best integrate with such networks.
