Dubai commuters are noticing new Solid Lines on Ittihad Road, Baghdad Street, the Airport Tunnel, E311, and E611. These continuous markings aim to improve traffic flow but have left many drivers confused. Some commuters report receiving fines while adjusting to the new road layout.
One motorist, who drives on E311 daily, received an AED 400 fine for crossing a Solid Line near his exit. “I’ve driven this route for years, and the lines appeared without warning,” he said. “By the time I realised, I had already crossed.”
Another driver commuting through the Airport Tunnel noted that the new lines are placed just before curves and exits, making quick decisions difficult. “I slowed down when I saw the camera, but a clearer sign would’ve helped,” she said.
What the Rule Means
According to the RTA’s Light Vehicle Driving Guide, Solid Lines indicate no passing zones. Motorists must not cross these lines to overtake, change lanes, or turn. Violations result in a fine of AED 400, in line with lane discipline rules in Dubai.
Some drivers expressed frustration, saying the new markings were introduced without sufficient notice. “A sign saying ‘no lane change ahead’ would help,” said one regular commuter. “Many drivers were caught off guard, braking suddenly when they saw the cameras.”
Call for Better Communication
While motorists support safer roads, they believe better communication is needed. “It would be useful if authorities informed drivers about new line placements before they appear,” said another commuter. “Apps or signs could make the transition smoother.”
Conclusion
Dubai’s new Solid Lines are intended to enhance road safety and reduce the risk of lane-changing. However, many drivers feel that more communication is needed to help them adjust. Clearer signage, earlier announcements, and app updates could prevent confusion and help motorists avoid fines.
As the markings continue to expand across major routes, commuters hope authorities will consider these suggestions to make the transition smoother and ensure safety for all drivers.
