Plug and Pray: Dubai Mosques to Host New EV Charging Network

0 39

Dubai is significantly expanding the local EV charging network by adding stations to mosque parking lots across the city. This project follows a new agreement between the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) and the firm UAEV

The 8-year contract aims to install chargers at community hubs where residents already gather for their daily routines. Most of these new units will operate through the UAEV mobile application rather than the DEWA Green Charger system.

Practical Power During Your Daily Prayers

Drivers can now use the time spent inside the mosque to recharge their vehicle batteries effectively. A typical 20-minute prayer session at an AC station adds roughly 15 kilometers of range to most electric cars.

While this may seem modest, it provides a consistent top-up for urban commuters who visit these locations several times a day. Integrating EV charging into these existing spaces reduces the need for dedicated trips to specialized fast-charging stations.

The project utilizes specific energy management systems to prevent any strain on the local power grid during peak times. These hardware installations are part of a broader plan to cover 600 parking spaces across the entire emirate.

By utilizing the UAEV app, users can easily find open slots and monitor their power flow in real time. This practical approach ensures that the infrastructure remains highly accessible for the growing number of electric vehicle owners.

Feature Details and Specifications
Charger Types AC Standard and Select DC Units
Network App UAEV (Emarat EV Charging)
Contract Length Eight Years (Renewable Option)
Range Added ~15-20 km per 20-minute session

How to Access Dubai’s Mosque-based Charging Stations

Using the new mosque-based chargers is a straightforward process designed to minimize any friction for the local community. The hardware is distinct from government networks, so you will need to download the specific UAEV digital application.

After creating an account, you can scan the station code to begin your session before entering the prayer hall.

  • Check Availability: View live station status on the map to ensure a bay is free before you arrive.
  • Plug and Pray: Start your EV charging session immediately to maximize the energy gained during your short stay.
  • Monitor Flow: Track the speed and cost of your power delivery directly through your smartphone while you are away.
  • Automatic Billing: Payments are processed through the secure app wallet, eliminating the need for physical cards or cash.
  • Stay Updated: Receive a notification on your phone as soon as your charging session is complete or power drops.

Conclusion

The move to install EV charging points at mosques shows a commitment to practical urban utility for all Dubai drivers. This strategy makes owning an electric vehicle much more feasible for residents in high-density areas with limited home charging options.

We expect the rollout to continue rapidly throughout 2026 across all major neighborhoods in the city. What do you think about these new mosque EV chargers? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
