0 262

The Auto China 2026 is officially underway, and the ArabWheels team is reporting live from the ground at both the Shunyi and Capital venues. We are navigating through 212 press conferences to bring you the most critical New Energy Vehicle (NEV) insights.

Auto China remains the world’s most significant stage for automotive innovation. The 2026 Beijing Autoshow features 1,451 vehicles on display, including 181 premieres set to redefine luxury and performance.

For the GCC buyer, this event is a glimpse into the next wave of high-tech SUVs and performance sedans arriving soon in regional showrooms.

The Rise of the Intelligent Ecosystem

At Auto China 2026, the focus has shifted from simple electrification to deep software integration. We are seeing the rise of “Intelligence Ecosystems” such as Huawei’s HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance), which powers brands like AITO and Luxeed.

Furthermore, the “8-Series” and “9-Series” naming conventions have become the standard for flagship luxury. These vehicles use 800V and 900V “Giant Whale” architectures to achieve charging speeds once thought impossible.

7 Elite NEVs at the Beijing Autoshow 2026

  • Yangwang U9: The Quad-Motor Performance Benchmark

The Yangwang U9 is the ultimate statement of intent from the BYD Group at Auto China. This electric supercar utilizes the revolutionary e4 platform, featuring 4 independent electric motors that produce a combined 1,289 horsepower.

The sheer presence of its carbon-fiber body and radical aerodynamics was undeniable. It can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.36 seconds, placing it in the same elite territory as established European hypercars. The U9 also features the DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System, allowing it to jump, dance, and drive on three wheels if necessary.

This level of technical sophistication proves that China is no longer just following but leading the performance segment.

  • BYD Formula X (Bao 8): The Hybrid Off-Road King

The BYD Formula X, known locally as the Bao 8, is a full-size luxury SUV designed for serious adventure. Built on the DMO Super Hybrid Off-Road platform, it combines a 2.0-liter turbo engine with dual electric motors to deliver 738 hp.

ArabWheels sees this as a direct competitor to the traditional luxury off-roaders dominant in the Middle East. It features 3 electronic differential locks and an intelligent hydraulic ride control system that can vary ground clearance by 140 mm.

With a combined range of 1,200 km, it solves the range anxiety typically associated with high-performance electric SUVs in the desert. The inclusion of Huawei HiCar connectivity ensures that the digital experience is as ruggedly sophisticated as the mechanical hardware.

  • AITO M9 (Next-Gen): The Pinnacle of Huawei Intelligence

The next-generation AITO M9 is widely regarded as the most intelligent SUV currently on display at Auto China. As part of the Huawei HIMA ecosystem, it introduces a 6-LiDAR sensing suite that prepares the vehicle for Level 4 autonomous driving.

The cabin is a digital fortress, featuring a 2,160-watt immersive audio system and a 3D interactive 5-screen setup. Power comes from an 800V architecture with a range-extender system that offers a combined CLTC range of 1,474 km.

The fully active suspension and chassis-by-wire system ensure that this 5.2-meter SUV handles with the precision of a much smaller vehicle. The AITO M9 is also set to launch in the UAE soon.

  • Zeekr 8X: A 1,400 Horsepower Performance Monster

The Zeekr 8X has stolen the headlines at Auto China as the world’s most powerful hybrid SUV in its class. Built on the 900V “Haohan-S” architecture, the range-topping Yao Ying variant produces a staggering 1,400 hp.

This triple-motor configuration allows the 8X to reach 100 km/h in an incredible 2.96 seconds, rivaling many dedicated track cars. Beyond its raw speed, the 8X supports 6C fast charging, reaching 80% from 10% in approximately 9 minutes.

The digital chassis includes adaptive air suspension and active damping, ensuring that the power is manageable on the road. This vehicle is a clear indicator of how Geely is pushing the Zeekr brand into ultra-performance territory.

  • Mercedes-Benz GLC L EV: German Luxury Tailored for China

Mercedes-Benz has used the Auto China platform to debut a China-specific long-wheelbase version of the GLC EV. This model features a 3,027 mm wheelbase, 55 mm longer than the standard European version, enabling a spacious 3-row seating option.

The LWB GLC EV utilizes an 800V architecture that supports DC fast charging speeds of up to 320 kW. With a claimed CLTC range of over 700 km, it addresses the needs of long-distance drivers without sacrificing Mercedes-Benz luxury.

  • NIO Firefly: A Premium Compact for the Global Stage

NIO’s entry-level brand, Firefly, makes its debut at Auto China, focusing on premium compact mobility. Designed specifically for global export to 16 international markets, the Firefly features a 143 hp motor and a highly efficient 41.2 kWh battery.

While smaller than its NIO siblings, it maintains the brand’s premium DNA with high-quality interior materials and a dedicated EV platform. It offers a real-world range of 240 km and supports bidirectional charging (V2L) for powering external devices.

ArabWheels believes the Firefly will be a critical model for first-time EV buyers in the GCC who want premium tech in a smaller footprint. Its success will depend on NIO’s ability to scale its battery-swapping infrastructure globally.

  • Tank 700 Hi4-T: Electrified V6 Power for the Desert

The Tank 700 Hi4-T is a standout at Auto China for its blend of traditional mechanical grit and modern electrification. It pairs a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo engine with a high-performance electric motor to produce 516 hp and 800 Nm of torque.

This powertrain is well-suited to the GCC, where V6 power is often preferred for high-speed highway cruising and heavy dune bashing. The Tank 700 features an intelligent 4WD system and a 9-speed A/T designed to handle massive torque loads.

With its boxy, aggressive silhouette and luxury-grade cabin, it positions itself as a credible electrified alternative to the iconic luxury off-roaders of the Middle East.

A New Era for GCC Buyers

The sheer pace of innovation at Auto China 2026 is a warning shot to the global automotive establishment. We are witnessing the birth of vehicles that don’t just offer electric powertrains, but entirely new ways of interacting with mobility.

For the GCC, the arrival of models like the Tank 700 Hi4-T marks a significant shift in how we view off-road electrification.

The “8-Series” and “9-Series” flagships we are seeing in Beijing will soon become the new standard for luxury in Dubai and Riyadh. Chinese brands are no longer competing on price alone; they are competing on raw horsepower and superior software.

Within the next 24 months, we expect at least 4 of the brands featured above to establish their presence in the UAE. The demand for 1,000 hp electric SUVs is growing, and Beijing is currently the only city building them at scale.
