The Audi Nuvolari has made its North American debut at Monterey Car Week, giving U.S. audiences their first look at Audi’s 1,001-PS hybrid supercar. The 499-unit flagship was displayed at The Quail and Pebble Beach before making its first drive on American roads around Carmel-by-the-Sea.

Audi CEO Gernot Döllner said the Nuvolari’s U.S. appearance reflects the American market’s strategic importance to Audi. Audi displayed the Nuvolari at The Quail and on the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Audi of America President Vito Paladino said Monterey gives Audi a premium stage to showcase its first halo supercar and support the brand’s growth in the U.S. Audi also hosted events for collectors and potential customers during Monterey Car Week.

*Audi quotes these figures with battery temperature above 28°C and state of charge above 80%

Under the carbon skin, the powertrain combines a twin-turbo V8 engine with 3x high-output electric motors. Two axial-flux motors drive the front axle, while a 3rd sits between the mid-mounted V8 and the transmission.

The four-drive-unit hybrid system delivers 1,001 PS, with the front electric motors providing up to 2,150 Nm at the front axle. A 7.3-kWh gross lithium-ion battery supplies the hybrid system and supports both electric assistance and energy recuperation.

  • The carbon-fiber exterior works with active aerodynamics, including a deployable rear wing that helps the car generate more than 400 kg of downforce in its high-downforce setting.
  • Formula 1-inspired energy management coordinates boost and recuperation, while the front air intakes help cool the combustion engine and hybrid components.
  • The newly developed Audi Space Frame combines a carbon-fiber exterior with a structure designed for low weight and high torsional rigidity.
  • Audi’s quattro predictive ride system coordinates torque distribution, braking and active aerodynamics, while the front motors provide variable torque vectoring.
  • Audi Ceramic Pro brakes use 10-piston front calipers with 420 × 40 mm discs and 4-piston rear calipers with 410 × 32 mm discs.
  • Production is limited to 499 cars worldwide, giving the Audi Nuvolari the scarcity expected of a collector-focused halo model.
  • Sources report an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, working with the V8 and three-motor hybrid system.
  • The driver-focused cabin combines lightweight carbon-fiber seat structures, anodized-aluminum details and a simplified control layout.
  • Audi says European presales will begin in the 4th quarter of 2026.

The Audi Nuvolari is already attracting significant interest from potential buyers worldwide, ahead of European presales in Q4 2026. Audi plans to begin customer deliveries in the first half of 2027. Audi supplemented its public Monterey appearances with private events for collectors and potential customers.

With only 499 cars planned, Audi is positioning the Nuvolari as an exclusive halo model showcasing its latest hybrid-performance technology.

Conclusion

Audi notes that the Nuvolari shown is a near-production prototype, and final U.S.-market specifications have yet to be announced. The Monterey appearance places the Audi Nuvolari in front of the collector audience Audi is targeting with its new halo model.

Its V8 hybrid system shows how Audi is combining combustion performance with electrification at the top of its range. Early media reaction has been mixed on the Nuvolari’s stark design, while its 1,001-PS hybrid powertrain and Formula 1-inspired technology have drawn considerable attention.

Audi is still testing Nuvolari prototypes at venues including the Nürburgring and Nardò.
