Bentley Flying Spur Sets Ice Lap Benchmark Near Arctic Circle

0 19

The Bentley Flying Spur Speed has set a new lap time record on ice. The run took place at Drivecenter Arena in Sweden, a racetrack located just 100 miles south of the Arctic Circle. This achievement makes the Bentley Flying Spur the fastest vehicle to lap the track in winter conditions.

The luxury sedan finished the 2.05-mile circuit in just 2 minutes and 58 seconds on solid ice. The lap was completed in a production-spec car with only one adjustment: studded 21-inch winter tyres to match the surface. No performance mods were made to the car’s powertrain, suspension, or interior.

Power and Control on Ice

The record lap highlights what the Bentley Flying Spur is built to do in extreme conditions. During the run, the vehicle hit peak speeds of 190 km/h despite thick ice covering the entire track. The car’s advanced 4WD system and rear-wheel steering were key to maintaining grip and agility.

Even the longest straight on the track, just 450 metres long, was covered in sheet ice. All lap times were recorded during mid-winter at the Drivecenter Arena, one of the coldest active circuits in the world. Temperatures dipped well below freezing during the record-setting attempt.

Inspired by Bentley’s Ice Legacy

This new record takes inspiration from Bentley’s past feats on snow. The brand previously set two Ice Speed Records in 2007 and 2011 using the Continental GT. In a nod to its racing heritage, Bentley styled the record-setting car to match its 1986 Turbo R.

It featured Brooklands Green paint, classic interior trims, and yellow pinstriping to mark the Turbo R’s 40th anniversary. The car used for the lap also carried the same number plate “Y15 BML” seen on Bentley’s heritage models.

Ultra-Hybrid Performance at Its Peak

The Bentley Flying Spur used for the record run featured a powerful hybrid setup. It combines a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with a 187 hp electric motor. Together, the system delivers up to 770 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque in Sport mode.

The electric motor alone provides 75 km of pure EV range and speeds up to 140 km/h. All-wheel steering, an electronic limited-slip differential, and active chassis systems kept the car stable. Even with the Electronic Stability Controls switched off, the vehicle maintained full confidence on ice.

Conclusion

The Bentley Flying Spur has proven it’s more than a luxury sedan. It’s now also the fastest car to lap an Arctic ice track under extreme winter conditions. Bentley used a production-ready car to demonstrate the capabilities of its powertrain and chassis engineering.

With record times like this, the Flying Spur continues to define high-performance comfort in all seasons. What do you think of Bentley’s latest icy milestone? Let us know in the comments. Stay tuned to the Arabwheels Blog for more record runs, reviews, and motoring updates from across the UAE.
